Your bird of prey learning experience awaits in the picturesque grounds of Herstmonceux Castle in East Sussex. You can book a full or half day experience with these amazing Birds.
WHAT TO EXPECT ON OUR FALCONRY EXPERIENCE DAYS
At East Sussex Falconry, we are dedicated to sharing our passion for raptors and creating unforgettable hands-on experiences in a stunning location. Join us for a either a full or half day filled with wonder and excitement as you connect with these magnificent creatures. Immerse yourself in the captivating bond between bird and falconer. Half day experiences run for 2hrs flying at least 3 different birds, this is either in the morning 10:15-12:15 or afternoon 1:15-3:15. With full day experiences running from 10:15-3:15, flying at least 6 different birds. Owl Experiences run for 1hr and start times vary.
The day will begin with a brief safety talk and a discussion on how to handle raptors. Throughout your experience you will be receiving interesting facts and information.
However, please feel free to ask as many questions as you like! We believe in getting hands on from the very start so once you've been greeted by our falconer Adam, you'll be introduced to the stars of the show! Then straight into flying the birds.
Meet our beloved Owls. Feel the thrill of having these silent wonders perch gracefully on your glove as they glide through the forest. We'll head for some long grass to offer a natural setting, where you can see them float around just feet above the ground. Perfect for the camera.
We will take you on a hawk walk through some glorious ancient woodland. Watch their reactions as they weave their way around the trees to land on your gloved hand.
Sometimes our Hawks will even catch their own dinner whilst walking through the woodland!
Our long eared owl Bramble loves to fly in the woodland and she brings it alive with her silent flights and bright orange eyes!
As lunch time approaches we say a farewell to our half day guests and our full day guests can enjoy a well earned lunch.
You may either bring your own packed lunch, or sample the delights to which Herstmonceux Castle tea rooms have to offer. *Please note the Tea rooms are only open at certain times of the year*. Or you could visit one of the local Inns where you will find a vast menu offering home-cooked hot and cold dishes.
After lunch, we will progress to flying the rest of the team.
Neo the Lanner falcon can often be seen high in the sky, then coming in fast to a swung lure. This is one of the fastest animals on the planet!. Neo, can at certain times of the year been seen flying with our local wild Peregrines high in the sky before flying back to see us.
Our pair of Kites are proving to be extremely popular, the kites go high in the sky, then swoop down to take food from your gloved hand, without stopping!! Then eat their treat on the wing.
Experiences run 7 days a week all year round - Subject to availability.
